UND - Episode 11

UX job paying $233K/yr and an app that forces you to touch grass

Unrequested design news

"Touch grass or I won't unlock the app."
Sounds weird? It actually makes sense — there's an app that locks your other apps until you literally go outside and touch some grass.

What seems like an ordinary pair of earbuds hides a twist: the case itself works as a microphone, a small shift that makes everyday communication sharper, easier, and unexpectedly smart. Nothing surprised us again.

You know when you see a color and one person says it’s yellow while the other says it’s green because they look so similar? Now you can finally see who was right.

Landing more clients as a UX/UI designer: what really works

Another struggle of my students is how to find more clients. Whether you’re freelancing or building a design business, getting consistent work it’s about being discoverable, trustworthy, and easy to hire.

Here’s what actually makes a difference:

1. Show your work in the right places
A polished portfolio is great, but if no one sees it, it won’t bring in clients. Go where your ideal clients are, LinkedIn, Twitter, UX communities, and share insights, case studies, or even small design tips. The more people see your work, the easier it is to get inbound leads.

2. Make it easy to say yes
Clients often hesitate because they don’t know what to expect. Make your process clear: How do you work? What’s included? What’s the next step? A simple “Work with me” page or a short call script can remove doubts and speed up decisions.

3. Build relationships, not just transactions
Many designers focus on cold pitching, but the best projects often come from connections. Engage with potential clients, offer quick value (even a small UX audit), and stay in touch. People remember designers who genuinely help them.

Landing more clients is about showing up, building trust, and making it easy to work with you. Focus on these, and opportunities will come.

Ciao! Talk to you in a month-ish 🕐

I'm Alessandra Stagno, a Lead Product Designer from Italy, now based in the Netherlands, with over 10 years of experience in Product Design – not the physical kind, though. The UX and UI kind. Yes, because in Italy, people think you make chairs if you say you’re a Product Designer. Never made chairs – unfortunately. But give me a horrible website or software with a questionable user experience, and you’ll find me in a room fixing it, saying: “Oooh! Now it’s clean, and I understand what I’m supposed to do, let’s test it!”
